Greetings to all ORIGINAL SOUNDMAN…

Now the purpose of this site I thought was for people to show their appreciation and respect for a sound that has definitely changed and influence the sound system scene in London the Ultimately the world. Not only have Saxon (known as the ruling sound to my spars and myself) been around for 20 years plus but have given many other DJ’s including the likes of Mistri a first break. From the days of when Trevor Sax then known as Trevor Ranks, Musclehead and Henry Equaliser (the best operators in the country) used to control the sound we sound have known the something was in the making. Of course this was all made possible By D.Rowe who had the foresight at the time to create the legend of a sound system. Now lets talk about the MC’s , well what can we say or where do we start, How about the fast style originator Peter King the original tek time neat mi sweet MC. Then as everybody must appreciate whatever sound you follow Phillip Levy is the most blessed MC that ever walked here with sharp delivery of lyrics (of course mixed down by Musclehead or Trevor) now does anybody remember those lyrics what he did chat when Saxon played Ghetto Tone (what a heat) well for those of you who are to young to remember let me tell the those lyrics (the fee belong to me) got the biggest forward ever you ever heard in a dance. Even though Ghetto Tone was a good sound they even along with Les Lyrics at the time they couldn’t handle Levy !.. Now lets continue. How about Smiley Culture and Asher Senator, now smiley as we all know came with his own style of lyrics (slam bam jah man hear dem fashion) and Senator with mi short mi smart mi how fi talk), and well with respect to Smiley the rest is history. The what about the second generation, again where do we start, ok how about Tippa Irie when Tippa arrived from Tabby’s he breathed yet another breathe of fresh air into the sound and we can’t forget all those deadly combinations with Daddy Colonel (the original roll tongue MC), now who remembers  a particular session at Celebrities Club in Rumford Road East London? … (Tippa and Colonel again so tell yu friend). Now there is also Daddy Sandy and Rusty, again what can you say about these two (peoples club dances against Sir Coxsone (Respect to Lloyd Coxsone and Blacka Dread, Festus,Gappy,Bikey, and Daddy IP (r.i.p)…. However we are not talking about Coxsone cos this is all about SAXON !….Now the thing you have to remember is this all these MC’s appeared on the sounds nearly twenty years ago and even today if Saxon play out the MC’s still turn up ! Doesn’t this tell you something? Again people may think that I am a die hard Saxon yout (which is true) but when a International Star like Daddy Tippa still makes time for the sound there is something to be learned! ….. Next ting is that I’m sure people would like to hear the ruling sound step back into the clash arena but you have to look at economics. How can you pay up to £1000 for say a Bounty Killer dub then play ten seconds of it in a dance (where is the logic in that)… Now tell mi crowd ah people if you are a sound owner then it would be  quite conceivable that you could spend 20 –30 grand cutting dubs to play one round of a clash (again the logic is where)… Surely a sound cannot be judge on how bounty or beenie dubs they have because this surely means that if you have enough money  anybody will cut dubs for you(nuh true). Now obviously times move on and sounds have to keep up with the times, however when clashes where going on in the Eighties it wasn’t about money; it was about the music and if a sound had a dub too bury another sound with then fair enough. Again what I am saying this…How can you judge a sounds for playing fifteen minutes then ten minutes then dub fi dub ? Surely it would be better to have two sounds either playing all night with a cup/trophy presented at the end or they play one hour each! Furthermore if you are a promoter how can you offer a sound a pittance to play a dance? Tell me don’t Selectors and Operators and MC’s have mouths or Families to feed! And I’m sure that the likes of Saxon pay all their crew members (why do you think that international stars come back to show some respect to where they have come from)…. Oh and one final point let me correct a couple of people on here.

Saxon where named after an amplifier and are not involved in any black or pagan business. Secondly on the point of the likes of Levy signing too Island records who are owned by a quote “white man” let me tell you my friend with respect open yours eyes and look beyond such things also apply some logic. Remember this is about music and not colour If we could as so called “black people” sort our selves out and stop fighting and shooting each other and form record label labels etc etc the your quite right signing a “black label” would be the way foward … Now look at the reality Island records are a international company with major distribution (Hence Mi God Mi King) was the only British tune to top the Jamaican Charts (again check your facts my friend before you come on here and start disrespecting people and their achievements; have you ever been to a Saxon dance when they are in full and the vibes nice… obviously not. Also you must ask yourself this why do the likes of Mighty Crown Luv,Addies etc etc have

Dubs from artist like Nas (who is not necessarily a reggae artist in combination with Whitney and Beres or Bounty and Tony Braxton on the same dub…. Well if you don’t know my friend let me educate you……… I suggest you take a trip to HMV Tokyo and Nike shop! …. you will find that because Mighty Crown and Judgement Sound Station are pushing reggae music over there and people are realising the vibes and sweetness of the music companies are getting behind these Sounds and Sponsoring them.. You will see Sammi T’s face and Master Simon’s plastered all over Tokyo and HMV and the Nike shop (so the reality is they can afford to pay these artists for dubs). Now tell me my friend is this wrong? I don’t think so; again Sammi T and Master Simon have to eat and feed their families. I think the cause for concern is this; Mighty Crown have only been on the scene for a few years (and in no way am I dissing them here cause they have achieved whole heap and have some brutal dubs) but tell me this after twenty plus years in the business why is Trevor and Musclehead only known by our small reggae community? I tell you why my friend it’s because aint nobody willing to back them (and if you remember in the words of Daddy Colonel …(Saxon done with di struggling suffering now its time for entertaining.)   Now you tell me this with a group of people knowing so much about music it’s a crying shame that Saxon don’t Clash no more (because I know that their box is deep and full ah dub) So before you come on here and start disrespecting BIG MAN SOUND  Get all your facts right

  1. Learn to appreciate good music whatever or whoever it comes from (remember the biggest Icon in reggae music) his mother was white so stop wid yu foolishness
  2. Remember it was Lloyd Coxsone who Rodigan a bring in 25 years ago and look what that man has done for reggae music …… and what colour is he ….well nuff said!
